Are you prepared for the flooding expected from Storm Ciara?

The whole of the UK is set to be battered by heavy rain and gale force winds this weekend … but are people prepared for the risk of flooding?

The weather is set to worsen considerably on Saturday into Sunday when storm Ciara hits the country so people are urged to be prepared for the risk of flooding.

The bad weather will then continue for much of February with snow in the north, according to the latest Met Office forecast.

It states: “Winds will stay on the strong side with gales to severe gales continuing. Further ahead, unsettled conditions are expected to dominate; generally windy with spells of rain at times, interspersed with brighter but showery interludes. The heaviest rain and strongest winds are expected in the west and northwest.”

If there is any good news it’s that temperatures will remain generally above normal with any cold snaps just that … snaps.

Homeowners and businesses often don’t realise that councils have no responsibility to provide sandbags if flooding is expected. They must protect themselves to avoid the terrible misery of flooding and one way to do this is to have FloodSax alternative sandbags which are space-saving to store and easy to deploy. It means you have peace of mind and are ready for action 24/7 to prevent a flood.

Once FloodSax come into contact with water they inflate to weigh 20kg (44lbs) which makes them more effective than traditional sandbags at keeping floodwater out.

More than 2.5 million have now been sold worldwide. They are available at all branches of Travis Perkins or for the full list of our UK suppliers go to http://floodsax.co.uk/buy/uk-suppliers
