FloodSax sandless sandbags used by Forest of Dean District Council and Newent Town Council

FloodSax alternative sandbags have been featured in the media again … this time it’s The Forester which covers the Forest of Dean area in Gloucestershire.

The story reveals that Newent Town Council has a limited supply of FloodSax which can be given to help people whose homes are at risk of flooding.

Newent Town Council has been provided with FloodSax by Forest of Dean District Council following heavy rainfall which has led to flooding concerns across parts of the parish in February 2026.

The story states: “Town councillors say supplies are limited and will be prioritised for residents who have already experienced flooding or who are considered to be at immediate risk. Anyone requesting FloodSax is asked to provide their address and a short description of how flooding has affected them so support can be arranged where possible.”

And it also has a very comprehensive description of what FloodSax can do both indoors and outside, saying: “FloodSax are a lightweight alternative to traditional sandbags and are designed to expand when they come into contact with water. Once activated, they can be used to create barriers around doors, air bricks and other vulnerable entry points to help reduce water entering properties. They can also be used internally, including in ground floor toilets, to prevent flood water backing up into homes.”

The council’s wider advice is also spot on, saying: “The council is also reminding residents that flooding can happen anywhere and is encouraging people to prepare in advance by checking insurance cover, keeping drains and gutters clear and signing up for flood warnings through the Government’s flood alert service.”

FloodSax are manufactured by Environmental Defence Systems Ltd based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, and their excellent customer services means they will give demonstrations and training sessions at local authorities, businesses and large organisations such as the NHS if they are interested in buying FloodSax or have already ordered some.
