Santa was having a terrible day … and it was his busiest time of the year right at the start of December.
It was incredibly snowy at the North Pole, so much so that the large pond next to Santa’s house started to overflow with the floodwater creeping ever closer to the leaky front door where the elves were hard at work finishing off all the toys.
As if the risk of flooding wasn’t bad enough, Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer had gone into training and was up on the roof trying some landings and taking off next to the chimney but he’d put his hoof into it … quite literally.
For he’d landed far too heavily and his hoof had gone straight through the tile so water was dripping into Santa’s toy workshop from the small hole in the roof.
Santa scratched his head. What could he do? He’d heard that traditional sandbags often fell apart when they came into contact with floodwater and they’d be no use at all with the water dripping into the workshop where it would damage the newly-made toys.
Thank goodness for Mrs Christmas who had thought ahead and bought hand-sized packs of FloodSax which she’d popped into the cupboard under the stairs ready for such an emergency.
“Right,” she said to the elves. “Two of you need to get the FloodSax out of the pack and lay a couple on the floor in the workshop to soak up the water coming through the roof. FloodSax are very large and flat and the gelling polymer inside will soak up all the rainwater until we get the roof guy out to fix the hole.
“The rest of you elves need to break off for a few minutes, immerse these other FloodSax in water where they’ll be magically transformed into instant sandbags. Then pop them outside in front of the door to stop the floodwater getting in. They’re super quick to do so you’ll be back finishing the toys in 15 minutes.”
The elves did as they were told because they were good elves. The door was quickly protected from the flooding pond, the drips through the roof fell onto the FloodSax on the floor and not a single one soaked through to the carpet or reached the toys.
Within a day the roof was repaired, Rudolph was no longer in ‘the dog house’ and the pond’s floodwater had receded.
And Christmas 2024 was saved … all thanks to FloodSax.
