Prepare now to prevent flooding when Storm Darragh brings torrential rain to the UK

The next major storm is set to batter the UK this weekend with flooding highly likely but councils have no responsibility to provide sandbags.

Storm Darragh has emerged from a large area of low pressure and is expected to bring torrential rain and strong winds to much of the UK from Friday through to Sunday.

The heavy rain will be a damaging feature of Storm Darragh with the heaviest rainfall expected in the north and west, causing a severe risk of flooding.

The Met Office has issued yellow and amber warnings from now until Sunday, December 8, which you can see at UK weather warnings - Met Office

This means people must take action now to protect their homes and businesses from flood damage which will be exceptionally costly to repair if it happens.

One way to do this is with FloodSax alternative sandbags that work both outside to prevent water getting inside in the first place but, in their dry state, can be used to soak up water leaking through roofs, windows and seeping under doors.

Both ways they’ll prevent floodwater getting in which causes terrible damage and is exceptionally expensive to repair.

According to the Association of British Insurers, the average claim for a flooded business is £70,000 while the average cost of a flooding claim on home insurance is around £32,000 while all this can be prevented by 20 FloodSax which cost around £140 – about a third of the cost of the flooding excess on home and business insurance policies.

FloodSax are manufactured by Environmental Defence Systems Ltd based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and Lucy Bailey from the company said: “Unfortunately, many people still think councils will provide sandbags if flooding is forecast or imminent.

“What they don’t realise is that local authorities have no responsibility to provide sandbags or any other flood prevention devices so the onus is on everyone to protect their own homes and businesses. The most cost-effective way to protect a property from flooding both outside and inside is with FloodSax sandless sandbags.”
