Now is the time to stock up with FloodSax alternative sandbags to be prepared for a wet and windy autumn

The summer is quickly coming to end with wet weather on the way, according to the Met Office.

Low pressure is now moving in signalling rain and wind for the days ahead as the UK moves towards early autumn with a lot of rain forecast for the first two weeks in September.

It means the risk of flooding will be high with the rain landing on dry ground, not soaking in and so putting homes and businesses at risk.

The Met Office says: “Changeable and unsettled weather conditions are expected across the UK during this period with low pressure systems tending to dominate the overall pattern. This will mean showers or longer spells of rain will affect the majority of the UK at times. Some heavy rain or showers are expected in places, most often in the west. Thunderstorms and hail are also possible, as are some spells of strong winds if any deep areas of low pressure form in the vicinity of the UK.”

Some people are thinking ahead and ordering FloodSax alternative sandbags from Yorkshire company Environmental Defence Systems Ltd.

Lucy Bailey from the company said: “We have several large business clients and they are now busy stocking up as they know what’s coming. Yes, we’ve had an incredibly dry period over the last few months, even leading to drought conditions here in Yorkshire, but one thing you can say about the UK is that it will rain again … and heavily.

“When we’ve had long dry spells like this before people have been caught out when the rain has hit which can so easily lead to flash flooding with water pouring into homes and businesses causing tens of thousands of pounds damage.

“It’s always best to be prepared for flooding, especially if you live in an area vulnerable to floods, which is why FloodSax are the ideal option as they are so space-saving to store yet quick and easy to deploy.”

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Steve Willington said: “Recent settled and warm weather has now subsided and been replaced with more unsettled and changeable weather. Meteorological summer is ending on a wet and windy note for many with low pressure the dominant force for the UK’s weather.”

In their dry state FloodSax are super-absorbent yet thin with a large surface area so are highly effective at soaking up water inside homes and businesses, especially in hard-to-reach places such as beneath pipes, radiators, sinks and boilers. They also soak up floodwater dripping in through leaky roofs and windows.

This prevents water from spreading and causing untold damage to floors, electrics, plasterboard and furniture, along with fixtures and fittings.

To transform FloodSax into instant sandless, simply fully immerse them in water. The FloodSax absorbs around 20 litres in around 5 minutes and retains it, transforming the FloodSax from being as light as a pillowcase to being more effective than traditional sandbags.

Unlike traditional sandbags, FloodSax have a uniform shape which makes them quick and easy to build into protective walls to prevent water from getting into properties or to divert it away from them down drains.
